SPRING 2000 NEWS

DEATH OF ERIC McAULIFFE

members were saddened to learn of the death of their former colleague, Eric McAuliffe, in December. Eric was a professional genealogist in Dublin for several decades. He was a friend and protégé of the renowned Edward MacLysaght and a long standing member of the Irish Genealogical Research Society. With the late Dermot Blunden he transcribed memorial inscriptions from several Co. Dublin graveyards and these were published in the Irish Genealogist. He was elected a Fellow of the IGRS in 1972. In fact, he probably had the distinction of being the only person to have been elected a Fellow twice, as, in the late 1980s the IGRS again went about honouring him, forgetting that he had already been given their highest recognition.
