HELEN KELLY ON AMERICAN TELEVISION
member, Helen Kelly recently appeared on the ‘Out of Ireland’ TV show – broadcast from New York and transmitted via PBS to over 40 states in the U.S.A.. The interview took place in Dublin and focused mainly on Irish genealogy. It also encouraged those of Irish ancestry to come and ‘walk the ground’. The initial broadcast was on 11 September 2001. It was re-transmitted on 25 September and broadcast in various states on subsequent dates.

MÁIRE MAC CONGHAIL NEW CHAIRMAN OF CIGO
At the Annual General Meeting of the Council of Irish Genealogical Organisations (CIGO) on 31 October 2001 Máire Mac Conghail, M, was elected as Chairman for 2001/2002. Máire has devoted a great amount of her time to voluntary work in genealogy over the past several years. She was Chairman of the Irish Genealogical Research Society (Ireland Branch) for three years and she is currently on the overall Council of the IGRS. She represents the IGRS (Ireland Branch) on CIGO and it is in that capacity that she was elected Chairman for the coming year.

SPRING 2001 NEWS
EITHNE MULHALL MOVING TO CANADA
is sorry to lose one of its members to emigration, but Eithne Mulhall’s colleagues wish her the very best of luck in her new home. Eithne and her husband Gerry, along with their three sons, are moving to Calgary in Alberta. Eithne has been involved in Irish genealogical research for twenty years and has been a member of since shortly after its foundation. While her opportunities for Irish research will be limited in Canada, she intends to make regular research trips to Dublin. Those in the Calgary area interested in Irish research now have a source of sound advice on their doorstep.

HELEN KELLY’S VISIT TO THE U.S.A.
member, Helen Kelly has just returned from a trip to the USA where she participated in the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Manhattan and Boston. During her visit, she availed of many opportunities to promote Irish genealogy, and also her new web-site. Assisted by Celebrity Tours of Mount Kisco New York and the Irish Tourist Board in NY she gave a number of media interviews during her seven day visit. Print media interviews included, the ‘Irish Emigrant’ ‘Home and Away’ and the ‘Boston Irish Reporter’. On Friday night the 16th March she appeared on two TV shows, , ie. Tom Clifford’s ‘Ireland on the Move’ and Sean Folen’s show entitled ‘Irish Hour’. She also participated in a number of Radio programmes throughout the United Sates, including WFUV Radio at Fordham University NY and WROL Radio in Boston.
