Hilary’s fascination with genealogy was ignited when helping her young daughter research her family tree for a primary school project over 15 years ago. The seed was sown, and over the ensuing years her own family tree grew.

A native of Dublin, she received an honours degree in English Literature from University College Dublin and subsequently a Diploma in Business Studies. Following a successful career in Marketing where Hilary specialised in consumer research she decided to redirect those research skills working to reveal undiscovered family histories. She completed a three year Certificate course in Genealogy at University College Dublin under the tutelage of Sean J Murphy and subsequently undertook a Masters in History of Family in University of Limerick  receiving a 1^st class hons.

Hilary has been a full-time professional genealogist since 2019 and founded Lifetimes Genealogy Research to assist others in uncovering their ancestors’ unique stories. She is also currently a member of the Genealogy Advisory team at the National Archives of Ireland. She is passionate about trying to bring to life the details of one’s ancestors, engaging with a myriad of primary sources and placing them firmly within a social and historical context.
